HER TWO SONS AT FRONT
Mrs. Allen Shocked to Hear of Her Son Stephen’s Wound.
Two official telegrams were sent to Mrs. Allen, of 76 College street, informing her that her son, Pte. Stephen Lowery Allen, was in the First Western General Hospital, Liverpool, seriously wounded in the right arm, Sept. 19th. Mrs. Allen, however, had taken an apartment at 105 Dundas street after the departure of her second boy, Pte. Donald Allen, and read of her son’s accident in the papers before being notified.
Pte. Stephen Allen was 17 years of age last July. He left for England Nov. 22nd, 1915. Mrs. Allen immediately wired Ottawa, and received the following answer at noon to-day: “Cabling England, enquiring present condition of Pte. Stephen Allen. Advise immediately on reply.”
Pte. Donald Allen left Toronto May 8th, 1916. He was born in Arnprior, Ont.; Stephen was born in Aylwin, Quebec. Their father is dead, and their mother is city representative of Scarboro Co. of Canada. A card recently from Donald says: “We are still down the line. Our battalion is split up for fair; the last of them came over to-day from Sandling.” In one of his letters he stated he had met a Belgian girl in London, and she said her father and mother were killed right before her eyes, and later she drugged the wine of the officers and escaped.
