Family Search: Private Jerry John Irvine was born on 21 August 1888, in County Fermanagh, Ireland as the son of Jane Irvine. He immigrated to Oshawa, Durham, Ontario, Canada in 1907 and lived in Oshawa, Durham, Ontario, Canada in 1915. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 27, his occupation is listed as blacksmith in Oshawa, Durham, Ontario, Canada. He died on 10 October 1918, in Boisleux-au-Mont, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France, at the age of 30.
This man enlisted with the 116th Battalion on 22 November 1915 at Oshawa, Ontario. He was a blacksmith and had no prior military experience.
He arrived England on 31 July 1916 and was transferred to the 18th Battalion on 5 October 1916 arriving to serve with that battalion on 22 October 1916. He served with this battalion until he took ill on 18 May 1917 and after treatment was returned to the 18th Battalion on 23 November 1917.
He was granted 14-day’s leave to England on 26 November 1917 and was then attached to the 2nd Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps effective 12 April 1918 with the actual transfer being affected on the 30th of that month.
He served with this until he was wounded at Iwuy and died of those wounds 10 October 1918 at No. 2 CCS.

When the enemy laid down a barrage during an attack South West of Iwuy, he was hit in the abdomen and left leg by a piece of shrapnel. He wounds were immediately dressed and he was taken to the nearest dressing station and shortly evacuated to No. 22 Casualty Clearing Station where he succumbed to his wounds.
