Family Search: Private George William Richardson was born on 1 January 1880, in Barnet, London, England, United Kingdom as the son of George Richardson and Cecelia. He married Ida Lillian Garratt in Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1892 and lived in Middlesex, Ontario, Canada in 1911. He registered for military service in 1901. In 1931, at the age of 51, his occupation is listed as fireman in London, Ontario, Canada. He died on 1 June 1945, in London, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 65, and was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, West McGillivray, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.

The man enlisted with the 18th Battalion in London, Ontario, on 28 October 1914. He was a farmer with prior military experience with the Royal Canadian Regiment and the Royal Canadian Dragoons, having served in South Africa with the latter regiment.
He practiced the Anglican faith.
He went to England with the 18th Battalion, and the 18th Battalion trained in England from May to September 1915, with the 18th Battalion arriving in Belgium as part of the 2nd Division in the latter part of September 1915.
In November 1915, he suffered a burnt hand and deafness due to an accident and required medical treatment from 4 November 1915 until 12 November 1915. This accident required treatment in England at the Shorncliffe Military Hospital.
His medical condition was such that he did not return to active duty, returned to Canada and was discharged on 3 June 1917 at Quebec City.
