Family Search: When John Ezra Grieves was born on 15 April 1891, in Leamington, Essex, Ontario, Canada, his father, Lemuel Dougal Grieves, was 30 and his mother, Harriet Jane Monk, was 25. He married Nora Bell McNea on 6 April 1912, in Saint Thomas, Yarmouth Township, Elgin, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He immigrated to Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States in 1923 and lived in Kent, Ontario, Canada for about 10 years. He registered for military service in 1914. In 1914, at the age of 23, his occupation is listed as fireman. He died on 29 April 1955, in Essex, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 64, and was buried in Oldcastle, Tecumseh, Essex, Ontario, Canada.

Was a sniper according to a London Advertiser article interview of Sergeant M.H. Lee relating those who were in his sniping platoon.
