“Killed in Action” He was on duty in a trench near Passchendaele as batman to an Officer of the 4th Canadian Machine Gun Company. The position was being subjected to heavy enemy shell fire. During a lull in the firing Pte. Mitchell got up on the parados and was instantly killed by a shell that exploded near him.
