Family Search: When Private George Joseph Birkhead was born on 27 November 1895, in Inglewood, Caledon, Peel, Ontario, Canada, his father, Thomas Birkhead, was 35 and his mother, Elizabeth Jane Williamson, was 34. He lived in Cardwell, Ontario, Canada in 1901 and Peel, Ontario, Canada in 1911. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 20, his occupation is listed as section man in Inglewood, Caledon, Peel, Ontario, Canada. He died on 9 April 1917, in Thélus, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 21, and was buried in Ecoivres Military Cemetery, Écoivres, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

PTE. G.J. BIRKHEAD KILLED

Pte. G.J. Birkhead, who was reported wounded about six moths ago is not listed as killed in action. He had been in the trenches only a few months, going overseas last August with a Peel County battalion. His kin are in Inglewood, Ont.
