Family Search: When Ephriam W. Ashkewe was born on 17 May 1897, in Cape Croker, Neyaashiinigmiing, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, his father, Frank Ashkewe, was 33 and his mother, Julia Ann Elliott, was 27. He had at least 1 son and 2 daughters with Mary Nawash. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1916, at the age of 19, his occupation is listed as farmer.

Indigenous Soldier from the “Cape Croker Reserve” now known as The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation occupy Neyaashiinigmiing Aboriginal Reserve No.27. Assigned temporarily with the 18th Battalion but was transferred and served with the 78th Battalion until wounded September 30, 1918.
