In affection and never dying memory of Pte. Percy J. Ransom, aged 20 years, eldest dearly loved son of Sergt. and Mrs. J. Ransom, who was killed in action on Vimy Ridge, France, May 27th, 1917.

Far and oft our thoughts to wander,
To a grave far, far away.
Where his comrades laid our dear one
For a soldier’s grave, one year to-day,
Friends may think that we forget him,
When at times they see us smile,
But they little know our sorrow,
Which that smile hides all the while.

Think of his past with his cheerful smile,
And say he is at rest:
We loved him well, we miss him much,
But God knows what is best.
