Family Search: When Private Harry William Caldecott was born on 14 June 1892, in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom, his father, Harry Caldecoat, was 24 and his mother, Alice Louisa Clark, was 29. He married Ruby Dulce Rogers on 5 October 1916 in Oxford, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He immigrated to Canada in 1912 and lived in Innerkip, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, in 1916 and Zorra Township, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, in 1931. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1931, at the age of 38, his occupation is listed as a painter of paper in Zorra Township, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. He died on 16 May 1976, at the age of 83, and was buried in Innerkip Cemetery, Innerkip, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

This man enlisted with the 168th Battalion at Woodstock, Ontario, on 4 April 1916. He was a painter by trade and practiced the Methodist faith. He was married at the time of his enlistment.
He embarked for overseas service at Halifax on 1 November 1916 and arrived at Liverpool, England, on 11 November 1916. He was sent to the camp at West Sandling and was transferred to the 12th Battalion on 5 December 1916. From there, he was transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion on 4 January 1917 at West Sandling.
His journey to combat operations began on 9 May 1917, when he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and began his journey to the Continent for active combat duty. Leaving for France, he arrived at the 1st Canadian Base Depot at Harve on 10 May 1917 and stayed there until he was sent to the front, arriving with the 18th Battalion “in the field” on 12 June 1917.
He was wounded on 13 November 1917 with a GSW to the right buttock. It was initially assessed as a slight wound (16 November 1917), but by 30 November 1917, it was considered severe. He had passed from a Casualty Clearing Station (13 November 1917) to the 16th Ambulance Train on 15 November 1917, to No. 18 General Hospital the next day. On 30 November, he was transferred for further treatment in England aboard the A.T. Stad Antwerpen.
He recuperated in England from his wounds but developed pulmonary complications, and he was shipped home on 10 March 1919.

Biography
Harry William Caldecott was born in Cambridge, England, June 14, 1892. At the age of seven his father died and he was then raised in a “Boy’s Home” in Kingham, Oxfordshire. The home was known as Kingham Hill and was owned and financed by a squire Young. In 1912, at the age of 20, he came to Canada and resided in another home, known as Havelock Farm. This farm was also owned and financed by Squire Young. This home, north of Woodstock is on the northeast corner of Concession 13 East Zorra and County Road 17. In the spring of 1913 Harry started working or Mr. George King of Innerkip. Mr. King was a painter and paper hanger. harry lived and worked for Mr. King until he enlisted in the army in 1915. He served overseas in the 168th Battalion and was wounded by shrapnel in the Battle of Passchendaele. He was sent to England to recover and after the war he returned to Innerkip where he was presented with a mantel clock. Harry resumed working for Mr. King, his former employer. In 1921 he purchased the home and business of his employer (195 Blandford Street, Innerkip). Harry ran his business from this home until his retirement and resided there until his death in 1976.[1]
Harry was the son of Harry Caldecott and Alicia Louisa Clark.[2]
