Family Search: Lieutenant Donald Bowie was born on 19 June 1881, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom as the son of James Bowie and Mary Monroe. He married Mary Harriett Oliver on 31 December 1907, in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He immigrated to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada in 1904 and lived in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, in 1911. He registered for military service in 1914. In 1931, at the age of 49, his occupation was listed as a moulder in Galt, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He died on 19 November 1964, in Galt, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 83, and was buried in Mountview Cemetery, Galt, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Lieutenant Donald Bowie

This man from Blair, Ontario, enlisted with the 18th Battalion at Galt, Ontario, on 25 October 1914. His regimental number was 53877. He was married to Mary Harriett Oliver (22 December 1879 – 24 May 1973) and was a moulder by trade.

He served with the 18th Battalion and was promoted to Sergeant on 4 November 1914. He went overseas with the 18th and served with them until his appointment as an officer on 3 April 1917, when he was posted to England for an Officer’s course. He was appointed as a Temporary Lieutenant on 1 July 1917.

He was struck off strength with the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion and was returned to Canada for instructional duty.

He married Mary on 31 December 1907, and they are recorded to have had three children.
