Short Biography:
My grandmother’s sister, Ivy Marie Thompson, was born 28 Oct 1893 in Toronto. In 1921, she married Maxwell Murdock MacGregor.
Max was born in Kemptville, Ontario 8 Aug 1897 to parents James Malcolm MacGregor and Caroline (Carey) Bower. James MacGregor ran the general store in Kemptville until his unfortunate early demise in 1906 in a house fire. Following James’ death, Carey moved to Toronto with her nine children. On the 1911 Canada census, she appears with six of those children, living at 158 Bleecker Street. Daughter Mary and son Charles are working as bookkeepers while sons Donald and Earnest are working as salesmen. Max and his sister Annie are at school.
Max served in the 1st World War (regiment #159138). At the time of his marriage to Ivy, he was working as a salesman. He was an amazing lacrosse player with Toronto’s St. Simons and other teams. His picture appears at the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in Welland, Ontario.
In later years, Max worked as a lineman for Ontario Hydro. He and Ivy had five children: four daughters and one son.
