Family Search: When Private James Whitmore Hopkins was born on 21 January 1896, in Tobermory, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, his father, James Henry Hopkins, was 34 and his mother, Martha Jane Blake, was 37. He married Vera Myrtle Cripps on 24 November 1919, in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Ontario, Canada, in 1896 and in Bruce, Ontario, Canada, for about 10 years. He registered for military service in 1915. He died on 19 October 1975, in Owen Sound, Grey, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 79, and was buried in Scotland, Oakland, Brant, Ontario, Canada.

James W. Hopkins
James Whitmore Hopkins, 78, died at Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital Oct. 19.
He was born in Tobermory, son of the late James and Martha Hopkins.
He servied with the 160th Bruce Battalion in the First World War, and was wounded in France in 1918. He married the former Vera Myrtle Cripps of Tobermory in 1919. He farmed in Tobermory all his life, and also worked as a tour guide. He was a member of the Orange Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son John of Collingwood and two daughters, Hilda, Mrs. Stan Jorgenson of St. Catharines and Ruth, Mrs. Robert Lambert of Sarnia.
He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Victoria Eiden of Dearborn Heights, Mich., seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He is also survived by a chosen son, William Dean of Bramalea.
