Family Search: Private William Samuel Ellery was born on 6 August 1893, in Southwark, London, England, United Kingdom as the son of George James Ellery and Mrs. Jane Ellery. He immigrated to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada in 1909. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1914, at the age of 21, his occupation is listed as farmer in Campbellton, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. He died on 14 September 1918, in Baralle, Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 25, and was buried in Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

Private William Samuel Ellery (reg. no. 54203) enlisted with the 18th Battalion on 12 February 1915, at London, Ontario. He was a single farmer practicing the Anglican faith.
He went overseas with the 18th Battalion to England in April 1915, and after the 2nd Canadian Contingent had trained for four months, went overseas to Belgium on 15 September 1915.
He served with the 18th Battalion and had some health issues which necessitated being treated in England.
He was returned to service and was killed by an enemy shell near Barelle, France.
He has no known grave.
