PTE. CECIL SPROAL KILLED.
BRAMPTON, Sept. 7. — Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sproal received the sad intelligence yesterday that their older son, Pte. Cecil Sproal, had been killed in action on Aug. 25th, in the fighting for the city of Lens. Pte. Sproal went overseas with a Peel battalion last call and went through the battle of Vimy Ridge unscathed, after having some marvellous escapes. When his platoon went over the top the two lads on either side of him were shot dead. A few weeks before a bullet passed through the shoulder of his tunic while out with a working party. When Gordon Harrison, a Brampton boy, had his leg blown off at Vimy Ridge Pte. Sproal helped carry him off the field. The dead soldier was 20 yeas of age, and before enlisting worked as a shoe cutter with J.W. Hewitson Shoe Co.
