Joining the 186th Overseas Battalion at Chatham, Ontario on November 11, 1915, this 21-year-old single farmer prepared to serve his country.

He arrived in England aboard the SS Lapland on April 7, 1917, and was stationed at Bramshott. He was transferred to the 18th Battalion and arrived for active service on September 5, 1917.

Serving with the Battalion through its operations, he was taken ill with nephritis on January 13, 1918, and transferred to No. 13 General Hospital where he died on January 31, 1918.
