In 1914, at the age of 25, his occupation is listed as a labourer. He died on 9 April 1916, in Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium, at the age of 26.
Enlisted under an assumed name. News clipping has him as Private William Smythe, US Calvary.
Possibly the soldier Lieutenant F. Lawson was looking for when he was wounded and then died of said wound.
