Family Search: When Private William Houston Scobie was born on 21 October 1883, in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, his father, Robert Scobbie, was 35 and his mother, Janet Houston, was 31. He immigrated to Chicago, Cook, Illinois, United States in 1913 and lived in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom for about 20 years. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 32, his occupation is listed as plumber. He died on 6 June 1916, in Poperinge, West Flanders, Belgium, at the age of 32.

Brother to Private Colin Scobie, reg. no. 123792. He survived the war only to die on a train on the way home due to illness attributed to his service. He died on January 29, 1919.
