“DIED OF WOUNDS” While resting in his “funk-hole”, he was wounded in the left leg, chest and buttock, and sustained a fractured hip, by shrapnel from an enemy shell that exploded near him. After receiving first aid and attention he was taken to No. 42 Casualty Clearing Station where he died from the effect of his wounds.
