Family Search: When Private Chester Slack was born on 23 January 1896, in Wallace Bridge, Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada, his father, Maynard Parker Slack, was 46 and his mother, Jeanette McDonald, was 31. He lived in Cumberland, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1901. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 19, his occupation is listed as a soldier. He died on 1 October 1918, in France, at the age of 22, and was buried in Ficheux, Pas-de-Calais, France.

Served with the 18th Battalion and was then transferred to the 42nd. This man had two brothers who served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Private Harold Slack (1896-1917) and Private Maynard Burgess Slack (1890-1971).
