Ford Ex-Gardener’s Funeral Today

Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon from Chapen’s funeral parlors, 525 Victoria Ave., Windsor, for Albert E. Wallace, who served throughout the war with the Eighteenth Battalion. He died Saturday at Ford Hospital in Detroit. Mr. Wallace was for several years employed as a landscape gardener on the Henry Ford estate at Dearborn and made his home at 3764 Lawrence Ave.

Born in England 45 years ago, he had lived more than half his life under the British flag and went through the war unscathed. He was awarded the Mons Star, the Victory Medal and the General Service Medal. He was unmarried. A sister and two brothers reside in England.

Col. E. S. Wigle with other old members of the Eighteenth Battalion will attend the funeral services, which will be conducted by the Rev. Robert Garrett, of Detroit, who served with Wallace at the front. Burial will be in the Soldier’s Plot in Windsor Grove Cemetery.

This soldier, with 4-years of experience with a Territorial Regiment in England, joined the 18th Battalion, CEF on February 10, 1915, at Windsor, Ontario.

After joining the Battalion he shipped overseas and had a spot of medical issues with varicose veins. An operation was successful and he was able to continue service with the Battalion, leaving with them for the Continent on September 14, 1915. He served the Battalion during the entirety of its overseas service from September 1915 until it was disbanded on May 24, 1919, in London, Ontario, also the date of his discharge. His service was only interrupted by minor ailments and several leaves.

He is recorded to have lived at 1956 Ferry Park Avenue, Detroit Michigan sometime after 1920.
