Family Search: When Private Donald Jardine Whyte was born on 1 April 1896, in Bosanquet, Lambton, Ontario, Canada, his father, Duncan Whyte, was 32 and his mother, Margaret Alice May Jardine, was 21. He married Anne Elizabeth Cox on 29 September 1924, in Arkona, Lambton, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 daughters. He lived in Lambton, Ontario, Canada for about 10 years and Sarnia, Sarnia, Lambton, Canada West, British North America in 1931. He died on 24 February 1982, in Forest, Lambton, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 85, and was buried in Forest, Lambton, Ontario, Canada.

This man was enlisted with the 149th Battalion at Forest, Ontario on 5 January 1916.

He was farmer following the Presbyterian faith.

He arrived in England on 7 April 1917.

He was first transferred to the 25th Reserve Battalion on his arrival posted to Bramshott Camp. He was then transferred to the 4th Reserve Battalion effective 17 November 1917 and proceeded overseas for active duty on the 22nd of that month.

He arrived at the 18th Battalion “in the field” on 6 December 1917 and served with the 18th until wounded on 29 August 1918. He suffered a GSW to the left arm and right wrist.

He was granted 14 days leave to the United Kingdom effective 13 November 1918.

His records indicate that he went absent while in England and was eventually returned to the 18th Battalion on 28 January 1919.

He returned with the 18th Battalion to Canada and was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.
