This blog has been working to add soldiers to the Soldiers’s Pages from the research and transcription of the war diaries and from other sources. Currently I have 7 soldiers with initial research started and 23 soldiers, mostly officers, that have been listed and have no research done.

One of the challenges of doing this is not so much the time but creating an effective means to manage these soldiers. I have neglected to create a basic database or notes and I have not recorded effectively what source the names came from. As one of the objectives was to list all the soldiers listed in the war diary so readers could reference them later by searching the blog I was remiss in creating an effective organization to manage this.

This small issue only serves to remind one of how much work a historian has to do to record and keep track of sources and it has made me appreciate the work it takes to do historical work.

This is a minor setback. The important thing is to give recognition to the soldiers of the 18th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Forces as a starting point for others to discover more about this fine Battalion. It was never the intent of this blog to exhaustively research the background of every soldier as the main thrust is to transcribe the war diaries and from that work launch into other areas of discovery of the men and actions of the 18th Battalion.
