Implementing a basic database has been a huge help in being organized. I have been able to systematize my workflow so that I prevent errors while being able to accurately record soldiers that have been included using Soldiers Pages and those that are waiting to be included into the blog.
To date I have 383 entries for soldiers but it was at 411 so I was able to eliminate approximately 7% of the entries as they were, primarily, duplicate entries. The database has also allowed a more accurate accounting of the soldiers I add to the Canadian Great War Project. Slowly their database of soldier is growing. Almost without exception soldiers of the 18th Battalion that died during the war have entries their but I have found several that had no entry and was able to update the information on that site accordingly.
At this time I am working to update all the soldiers Digitized Service Records so that the database reflects the progress of their efforts to digitized the service records of our Canadian World War 1 soldiers. At the date of this blog entry it appears that the LAC is working on the letter combination of ‘Co’ as the records seem not to be consistently available after this alphabetical letter combination.
