Bruce in Khaki Newspaper

The 160th Battalion had a newspaper overseas called “Bruce in Khaki” and it was published from October 1917 to January 1918. The 7 editions are a fascinating insight into a Canadian soldiers’ life overseas and contained topical articles relating to the Battalion. The main source page that contains the editions is here.

  1. Hello. Just want to thank you for all the great work you do on the 18th. I have been researching Lt.W.F. Huycke sn#507733, for 7 years or so as I have a keen interest in him. Thanks to you I have a picture to go with his service pistol and his files from library and archives Canada. Can you offer any advice on where to look for any letters or other pictures related to him? I also do continuous research on my Great Grandfather who also served in the CEF. (Crazy bugger signed up twice while in his mid 40’s. ) I keep all your emails and read as much as I can when time allows. Is there a search engine on your Web site? I can’t seem to find it if there is. Anyway thank you for your wonderful work. Yours Truly Kevin E. Colliss On Nov 30, 2015 11:14 AM, “War Diary of the 18th Battalion CEF” wrote:

    1. Kevin,

There is a search function on the blog. If you look immediately ABOVE the “Important Links” section you will see a rectangle box with the word “Search” in it. Simply put your cursor their and you can do you search.

As to his letters I would suggest joining Canadian Expeditionary Force Study Group at http://www.cefresearch.ca/phpBB3/index.php and asking that question. There are several sites focusing on Canadian soldiers and their letters but that is dependent if the soldier and their families kept them and then donated them.

I would start at http://www.canadianletters.ca/ and they may have some resources to help you.

I will be on the look out and if I find anything I will let you know.

      Eric
