Source: CVWM. Biography – From the book, War Memorial of Huron County’s Heroes and Heroines that was published in 1919 by the Wingham Advance. Submitted by Operation Picture Me. – LANCE CORP. W.W. HELPS was killed in action on the 13th of March, 1917. He is the son of Mrs. Helps, Shuter St., Wingham. Eddie enlisted with the 161st Battalion and had seen some hard fighting. On March 26th, 1917, he paid the supreme sacrifice. Before enlisting he was employed as an electrician with the Municipal Electric Power Department.
Press Clipping via CVWM PTE. M. KING KILLED. Pte. Martin King, a farmer lad, whose parents live at 199 First avenue, was killed in action March 24 at the age of 24. He enlisted in a county of Ontario battalion, drilled at Port Perry, was transferred, and had been in France since October. Last word from him arrived two weeks ago. Submitted for the Soldiers’ Tower Committee, University of Toronto, by Operation Picture Me.SERGT. C. ROSS DEAD The gunshot wound in the head of Sergt. C.H.W. Ross has proved fatal. He is this morning officially reported to have died a t the No. 30 Casualty Clearing Stations. Sergt. Ross is the son Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ross of 895 Yonge street. He was 23 years of age and was born in Toronto. He went overseas in April last, and was reported wounded on March 5. Previous to enlisting he was employed by the Hyslop Automobile Co. He was a member of the Orange Young Britons’ Society and of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Toronto Star – March 13, 1917. Source: CVWM
