This was a bad morning for ‘A’ Company of the 18th Bn. A German trench raid on the company outpost on the Tilloy Trench at 0850 hours left one dead, two wounded (one fatally) and two men captured, one of whom was killed trying to escape. Five casualties in one very minor action does not seem like much, but graphically illustrate that being in ‘General Reserve’ was not without some potentially fatal hazards. Ironically, the 18th Bn was relieved by the 14th Bn that evening.
Thank you for your comment. I am working on the transcription of July’s War Diary and it should be posted some time today or tomorrow. Happy Canada to you Dennis. Thank you for your service.
