Family Search: When Private Archibald William Adie was born on 25 January 1892, in St. Catharines, Lincoln, Ontario, Canada, his father, John Alexander Adie, was 40 and his mother, Frances Marie Ryan, was 36. He lived in Lincoln, Ontario, Canada in 1901 and Ontario, Canada in 1911. He registered for military service in 1918. He died on 10 April 1918, in Pas-en-Artois, Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 26, and was buried in Étaples, Pas-de-Calais, France.

This man enlisted with the 176th Battalion at Toronto, Ontario on 11 April 1917. He was a clerk and had prior military experience with the 19th Lincoln Regiment.

He embarked at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 28 April 1917, and arrived at Liverpool, England on 7 May 1917.

Two days later he was transferred to the 12th Reserve Battalion at Sandling Camp and was then transferred to the 164th Battalion on 4 June 1917 at Witley Camp. He was then transferred to the 4th Reserve Battalion on 15 June 1917 and was then transferred for active combat duty with the 18th Battalion effective 6 September 1917.

Private Adie arrived on the Continent and proceed to the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp, arriving on 17 September 1917. He was sent to the 18th Battalion and arrived “in the field” on 23 November 1917.

He served with the Battalion until wounded on 4 April 1918, and was sent to a Casualty Clearing Station the next day. From there he was transferred to the Liverpool Merchant Mobile Hospital on 8 April 1918 and he died of wounds at 8:15 PM on 10 April 1918.
