He died on 15 September 1916, in Courcelette, Somme, Picardie, France, at the age of 25, and was commemorated in Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

Lieut. Barnes, whose picture appears in today’s issues of The Herald, worked in the Canadian Bank of Commerce here for several years and was also actively engaged in business in this city for some considerable time before his enlistment. His parents are living in MacLeod, and he has another brother serving in the Canadian forces in Flanders.
