He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 23, his occupation is listed as labourer. He died on 9 April 1917, in Thélus, Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 25, and was buried in Nine Elms Military Cemetery, Thélus, Pas-de-Calais, France.

Torphin’s Public School; was employed as a Forester, and later went to Canada: Enlisted in the Dominion Forces in Jan. 1915; returned to England with the 3rd Canadian Contingent the following June; underwent training at Shornecliffe; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders; was wounded in June 1916, and invalided home; on his recovery in Nove. rejoined his regiment in France and was killed in action at Vimy Ridge, 9 April, 1917. Buried in the British Military Cemetery, Neuville St. Vaaste; unm.
