Family Search: When Lieutenant George Ernest Hosford was born on 4 August 1888, in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland, his father, William Hosford, was 33 and his mother, Kate Maybury, was 27. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and lived in Ireland in 1901 and Cork, County Cork, Ireland in 1911. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1916, at the age of 28, his occupation is listed as surveyor in London, Ontario, Canada. He died on 17 October 1918, in Hordain, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 30, and was buried in Ramillies, Nord, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.

"Killed in Action" During operations in from of Hordain, he was struck in the hip by an enemy machine gun bullet whilst making a tour of the posts of his company of the night of October 17th, 1918. He died almost immediately after receiving his wounds.
