Family Search: When Private Alexander McCalmont was born on 1 September 1888, in County Antrim, Ireland, his father, Alexander or Sandy McCalmont, was 35 and his mother, Elizabeth Jane Colville, was 37. He married Rosanna McManus on 30 April 1909, in Kent, British Columbia, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 2 daughters. He immigrated to Quebec City, Quebec, Canada in 1906 and lived in Ballymoney, Islandmagee, County Antrim, Ireland in 1901. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1916, at the age of 28, his occupation is listed as labourer in Thamesville, Kent, Ontario, Canada. He died on 11 June 1918, in Doullens, Somme, France, at the age of 29, and was buried in Doullens Communal Cemetery, Doullens, Somme, France.

This man enlisted at Chatham, Ontario on 28 February 1916, with the 168th Overseas Battalion. He was a married labourer practicing the Presbyterian faith.
He arrived in England aboard the SS Lapland on 7 April 1917 and was transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion on the same day at Bramshott Camp,
On 6 September 1917 he proceeded overseas to join the 18th Battalion. He arrived in Etaples the next day and was sent to the Canadian Corps Reinforcing Camp on 27 September. After only two days he was despatched to the 18th Battalion arriving “in the field” on 23 November 1916.
He served with the 18th Battalion until wounded on 10 June 1918. He was sent to No. 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital in Doullens, France, dying of his wounds on 11 June 1918.
He is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension No. 2.
