SGT. J. RENNIE LIKELY KILLED IN AMBULANCE
Very Well Known Owen Sound Man Reported Killed on Way to Hospital
Saturday’s casualty lists contained the name of Sgt. Jonathan Rennie under the heading of “Previously reported wounded, now wounded and missing.” Bad news will perhaps be soon at hand. Mrs. Jean Brebner, 8th St. E., aunt of Sgt. Rennie, is anxiously waiting for further news. The latest word received was in a letter received from Pte. Powell Horton of the same battalion, saying that Pte. Rennie had been carried from the dressing station in an ambulance and was on his way to hospital when the ambulance was struck by a shell and the occupants all killed. On the strength of this information the flag on the town hall was placed at half mast yesterday morning.
SGT. JONATHAN RENNIE
Jonathan Rennie was very well known here, having resided with his aunt for a number of years, previous to enlisting in the Grey county quota of the 37th Battalion. He was a member of the Division St. Presbyterian church and the choir there. He was in the employ of the Wm. Kennedy and Sons and was very popular with everyone. He was a thorough Christian young man and will be sadly missed by all. He was a native of Glasgow, where his mother still resides. He has been killed just ten miles the first member of the Orpheus Chorus to make the supreme sacrifice.
Dr. Clark, pastor, in this city, is endeavoring to get all the particulars, and we will probably hear more concerning the case later.
