Family Search: When Sergeant George Ervin Stephens was born on 11 June 1896, in Houghton, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, his father, William Henry Stephens, was 32 and his mother, Bertha Walser, was 31. He lived in Elgin, Ontario, Canada in 1901 and Essex, Ontario, Canada in 1911. He registered for military service in 1914. In 1914, at the age of 18, his occupation is listed as bookkeeper. He died on 8 August 1918, in Pissy, Somme, Picardie, France, at the age of 22, and was buried in Villers-Bretonneux, Somme, Picardie, France.

SERGEANT GEORGE STEPHENS, WINDSOR

Enlisted as a private in the 18th Batt’n in November, 1914. Received his commission in the battlefield. Was wounded at the Somme, but returned to France in March 1918. Killed at Cambria on August 8, 1918. Buried at Crucifix Coner, near Corbie, France.
