Family Search: When Private Robert Thornton Wilson was born on 26 February 1894, in Ops, Victoria, Ontario, Canada, his father, James Keith Wilson, was 27 and his mother, Margaret Thornton, was 19. He lived in Victoria, Ontario, Canada, in 1911. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 21, his occupation is listed as farmer. He died on 5 January 1917, in Vimy, Pas-de-Calais, France, at the age of 22, and was buried in Maroc British Cemetery, Grenay, Pas-de-Calais.

This man enlisted with the 116th Overseas Battalion on 23 November 1915, at Port Perry, Ontario. He was a Presbyterian farmer with no prior military experience.
He went overseas to England with the 116th Battalion, leaving Halifax on 23 July 1916, and arriving at Liverpool, England, on 31 July 1916.
He was transferred for “overseas service” arriving at No. 1 Canadian Base Depot at Harve, France on 6 October 1916. He then joined the 18th Battalion “in the field” on 22 October 1916.
He served with the 18th until he was killed in action on 5 January 1917 at the Maroc Sector near Bully-Grenay, France. The circumstances of his death are unknown.
