Family Search: When Private Arthur George Barnes was born on 23 August 1892, in Norwich, Norfolk, England, United Kingdom, his father, Arthur Barnes, was 27 and his mother, Esther Martins, was 27. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and lived in Ripley, Bruce, Ontario, Canada in 1917 and Clute, Cochrane, Cochrane, Ontario, Canada in 1923. He registered for military service in 1917. In 1917, at the age of 25, his occupation is listed as farmer in Ripley, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. He died on 17 February 1968, at the age of 75, and was buried in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada.

This man reported for duty under the MSA on 15 November 1917 and was accepted being assigned the reg. no. of 3130050. He went overseas to England was assigned to the 18th Battalion on 11 May 1918, arriving “in the field” with the Battalion on 30 May 1918.

Due to enemy action he was posted as “missing” on 8 August 1918 but returned to the Battalion with a GSW to his right side of his body and was sent to hospital for treatment.

His wounds healed, he returned to active service on 14 October 1918 and completed his service upon his discharge at London, Ontario on 24 May 1919.
