MILITARY MEDAL:
For conspicuous bravery and initiative under fire. This N.C.O. at a critical moment when his Platoon Commander had become a casualty, rallied his Platoon under heavy enemy machine gun fire & led them forward, and with great coolness and initiative consolidated his position on main objective. When the Battalion moved forward this N.C.O. held a most important out-post position under heavy shell-fire and by his coolness set a fine example to his men who were badly shaken by the severe bombardment to which they had been subjected.
