Family Search: When Private David Moir Borthwick was born on 28 July 1893, in Midlothian, Scotland, United Kingdom, his father, John Hay Borthwick, was 30 and his mother, Margaret Meikle, was 17. He married Mina Sutherland on 3 March 1919, in Straffordville, Elgin, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He lived in Saint George, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom in 1901 and Hamilton, Hamilton-Wentworth, Ontario, Canada in 1931. He died on 16 September 1956, in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 63, and was buried in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

D. M. Borthwick Dies On Sunday
David Moir Borthwick, of 141 George Street, died on Sunday at his residence, aged 63.
A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Mr. Borthwick came to Canada in 1910, settling in Stratford. He had lived in Hamilton for the last 30 years.
He was a veteran of the First World War, having served in England and France from 1915 to 1918, with the 18th Regiment from London, Ont., as a sergeant. He was awarded the Military Medal.
Mr. Borthwick had been employed with the Steel Company of Canada for 30 years and was a member of both the Stelco Veterans’ Association and the United Steelworkers’ Association of America, Local 1005.
He was a member of Tecumseh Lodge, AF and AM, No. 144, Stratford, and attended St. Enoch’s Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mima; two sons, William D., with whom he resided; John S., of Hamilton; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. John Borthwick; a brother, William and a sister, Miss Margaret Borthwick, all of Stratford.
The body is at the Dodsworth and Brown Funeral Home for service at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
