Private Arthur Burman. Regimental no. 409099.

This man enlisted with the 37th Battalion on 22 June 1915 at Camp Niagara, Niagara-on-the-Lake. He was a chairmaker by trade and had 3 years of militia experience with the 31st Regiment.

He went overseas 27 November 1915 arriving in England on 11 December 1915 aboard the SS Lapland and was based in Shorncliffe. He was transferred to the 12th Canadian Reserve Battalion on 15 March 1916. He was transferred to the 18th Battalion effective 7 May 1916, and arrived “in the field” on 2 June 1916.

He was buried by a shell and was sent to No. 8 Stationary Hospital at Wimereux, France, suffering from shell shock. He was discharged from that hospital and assigned to No. 1 Convalescent Depot in Boulogne, France on 3 June 1916.

He was discharged to the Base Depot on the 17th and was rated Class “C” and attached to the Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre. He was transferred to Folkestone, England and attached to the Canadian Command Depot.

He was medically boarded and rated unfit for duty and returned to Canada to convalesce at Whitby, Ontario, effective 3 July 1917. He returned to Canada aboard the SS Scandinavian on 23 June 1917. He was discharged from this institution on 26 September 1917, pending discharge. He was discharged at Toronto, Ontario, on 30 November 1917.
