Family Search: When Lieutenant Edward Roy Crawford was born on 9 April 1892, in Hullett Township, Huron, Ontario, Canada, his father, George Crawford, was 34 and his mother, Agnes Cunningham, was 35. He lived in Huron, Ontario, Canada in 1901 and Blyth, Huron, Ontario, Canada in 1916. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1916, at the age of 24, his occupation is listed as farmer in Blyth, Huron, Ontario, Canada. He died on 4 September 1923, at the age of 31, and was buried in Blyth Union Cemetery, Blyth, Huron, Ontario, Canada.

This man enlisted with the 161st Huron Battalion on 27 March 1916 at Blyth, Ontario. His reg. no. was 654703.

He was transported to England for training arriving in Liverpool on 11 November 1916. The 161st Battalion was used to reinforce line battalions and Private Crawford was transferred to the 18th Battalion on 29 March 1918 and arrived “in the field” with the 18th on 24 April 1918. He served out the war with the 18th Battalion, save for a one month span were he was ill.

He was discharged when the 18th Battalion disbanded on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.

Note that this man served with the 18th Battalion as a private. It is unclear how he obtained the rank of lieutenant.
