Family Search: When Regimental Sergeant Major Arthur Garrod was born on 4 November 1888, in Hadleigh, Essex, England, United Kingdom, his father, Edward Garrod, was 48 and his mother, Eliza Hynard, was 42. He married Georgina Percy on 13 April 1912, in Stratford, Perth, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 3 daughters. He immigrated to New York City, New York, United States in 1936 and lived in Perth, Ontario, Canada in 1911 and Stratford, Perth, Ontario, Canada for about 17 years. He registered for military service in 1914. In 1914, at the age of 26, his occupation is listed as tinsmith, grand trunk railway in Stratford, Perth, Ontario, Canada. He died in Ontario, Canada.

Private Albert John Stanley and R.S.M. Arthur Garrod, worked together in England and were Best Man for each other’s wedding.

“The attached photo may be of interest, it was taken in 1906 and is of the church choir of the village of Layham in the county of Suffolk, England. The young man standing back row second from left is Arthur Garrod (b1888). He emigrated to Canada in 1911 and in Nov. 1914 joined the 18th Btn. as a private soldier No. 53806,by 1917 he was Regimental Sergeant Major.
