Family Search: When Private Alfred Worthington Hartley was born on 29 October 1887, in London, England, United Kingdom, his father, Alfred Edward Hartley, was 22 and his mother, Mary Phoebe Heaps, was 25. He married Ethel Gwendoline Lloyd on 25 December 1913, in Walkerville, Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He immigrated to Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States in 1912 and lived in Nelson Township, Halton, Ontario, Canada in 1931 and Campbellville, Halton, Ontario, Canada in 1964. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1931, at the age of 44, his occupation is listed as laborer. He died on 20 November 1964, in Burlington, Halton, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 77, and was buried in Saint George’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Lowville, Burlington, Halton, Ontario, Canada.
Transferred initially to the 8th Battalion but then TOS with 18th Battalion on September 10, 1918.
