Family Search: When Private Arthur Oscar Beatty Irwin was born on 3 October 1892, in Streetsville, Toronto Township, Peel, Ontario, Canada, his father, John Irwin, was 38 and his mother, Matilda McClelland, was 31. He married Vera Albertha Jane Walker on 24 March 1922, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He lived in Ontario, Canada in 1911 and Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada for about 19 years. In 1931, at the age of 39, his occupation is listed as bookkeeper. He died on 30 October 1950, at the age of 58, and was buried in Prospect Cemetery, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

This man was enlisted with the 124th Battalion at Toronto, Ontario on 7 January 1916.

He was a salesman following the Presbyterian faith.

He arrived in England on 18 August 1916.

He served in England with the 124th Battalion until transferred to the 18th Battalion effective 10 October 1916 and was shipped overseas arriving at the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Battalion on 5 November 1916. He served with them until 13 November 1916 when he was attached to the 5th Field Company, Canadian Engineers on 13 November 1916. He was returned to the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Battalion on 26 November 1916 and served with them until he arrived “in the field” with the 18th Battalion on 18 March 1917.

He went “on course” on 25 September 1917 and then was granted a 14 days leave to England on 28 December 1917.

Returning from leave he served until he was wound on 31 May 1918 with a GSW to the head and was sent to No. 5 Canadian Field Ambulance for treatment, returning on 6 June 1918.

He received 14 days leave on 23 December 1918 to the United Kingdom.

He returned to the 18th Battalion and was demobilized at London, Ontario on 24 May 1919.
