Family Search: Private Arthur Joy was born on 17 October 1896, in London, England, United Kingdom. He immigrated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1910. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1916, at the age of 20, his occupation is listed as farm labourer. He died on 20 May 1922, at the age of 25, and was buried in Brinsley Anglican Cemetery, Brinsley, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada.
This man enlisted at Lucan, Ontario on 1 November 1915 with the 70th Overseas Battalion, CEF. He was assigned the reg. no. of 124357.
He went overseas with the 70th Battalion aboard the SS Lapland arriving at Liverpool, England on 5 May 1916.
Temporarily assigned to the 39th Reserve Battalion at Shorncliffe, he continued his training in preparation for active combat duty with a line battalion.
On 10 August 1916 he was transferred to the 18th Battalion and arrived “in the field” with the 18th Battalion on 19 September 1916.
He has a short bout if influenza from 12 March to 16 March 1917 and recovered at the 4th Canadian Field Ambulance.
He then suffered a case of DAH (disease of action of the heart) in May 1917 and recovered and rejoined the 18th Battalion on 31 July 1917.
He then was given two 14-day leaves, one effective 3 November 1917 and the other 16 November 1918.
Returning from his leaves he would serve with the 18th Battalion until discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.
