Family Search: When Private John Kahgee was born in 1895, in Chippawa Hill, Saugeen 29, Bruce, Ontario, Canada, his father, Thomas KAHGEE, was 31 and his mother, Mariah THOMPSON, was 28. He married Clara Mitchell on 20 March 1920, in Saugeen Shores, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He lived in Bruce, Ontario, Canada in 1901. He registered for military service in 1916. He died on 17 March 1952, at the age of 57, and was buried in French Bay Cemetery, Saugeen Shores, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

This man was enlisted with the 160th Battalion at Southampton, Ontario on 5 February 1916.

He was a labourer and followed the Methodist faith.

He was single and listed his mother Mrs. Thomas Kahgee of Chippiwa Hill, Ontario, as his next-of-kin. He had no prior military experience.

Arriving at Liverpool England on 28 October 1917 he was struck off strength with the 160th Battalion and transferred to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion at Witley Camp on 23 February 1918 and arrived and was taken on strength with that battalion on 24 February 1918 at Bramshott.

He was transferred to the 18th Battalion on 28 March 1918 and was sent overseas on the next day arriving at 2nd Canadian Infantry Base Depot at Etaples. He was then transferred to the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp in 3 April 1918 and then arrived in the field with the 18th on 8 August 1918.

He was wounded with “gun shot wounds” on 26 August 1918 and invalided to England for care. He suffered a gun shot wound to the left and right thigh.

On 31 December 1918 he was attached to the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion and then arrived at Kinmel Park Camp in preparation for the return to Canada.

He sales from Liverpool aboard the HMT Baltic on 29 January 1919 heading for London, Ontario.

He was returned to England wounded and struck off strength from the 18th Battalion on 12 November 1917 and was posted to the Western Ontario Regimental Depot at Bramshott.

He was discharged on 28 February 1919 at London, Ontario due to demobilization.
