In 1918, at the age of 23, his occupation is listed as teamster in Windsor, Sandwich, Essex, Ontario, Canada. He died on 4 April 1926, in Essex, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 30, and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada.

This man reported for military service under the MSA (1917) at London, Ontario on 4 January 1918.

He arrived in England on 16 February 1918 aboard the SS Grampian and was transferred for active combat duty on 18 August 1918 and arrived “in the field” on 31 August 1918.

He suffered from Impetigo on 14 December 1918 and was returned to duty as fit on 30 December 1918.

He served the rest of the war with the 18th and was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.

Though the news clipping attributes his death to being wounded in the war, there is no evidence of this, unless it is a reference to him suffering from PTSD.

William Martin Dies From Injuries Received in 1914-18 Struggle

William Martin, 30 years old, died at his home, 631 Arthur street, yesterday afternoon, following a protracted illness brought on from service overseas during the war. Mr. Martin served in France with the 18th Battalion.

He was a native of Sarnia and had resided here with his family for many years. Besides his parents he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. J. B. Paterson, South Bend, Ind., and Mary, at home. Burial will be made in Sarnia, although definite arrangements will be completed today.
