Family Search: Private Samuel Cristi Martinovich was born on 15 January 1887, in Cetinje, Montenegro, Yugoslavia as the son of Krist Poro Martinovich and Maria. He had at least 2 sons with Caroline J. Horvath. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and lived in Sugarloaf Township, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States in 1910 and Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States in 1920. He registered for military service in 1917. In 1917, at the age of 30, his occupation is listed as miner in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, United States. He died on 26 September 1968, in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States, at the age of 81, and was buried in Luzerne, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States.

Former Mine Foreman Dies

Samuel K. (Martinovich) Martin, 80 E. Main St., Miners Mills, Wilkes-Barre, died at 4:30 p.m. yesterday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where he had been a patient six days.

Born in Ceteye, Yugoslavia, he was employed for some years as a mine foreman for the Lehigh Valley Coal Co., Tomhicken colliery, and then was superintendent of Beaver Valley Coal Co., Scotch Valley.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, Miners Mills.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline, two sons, Lewis, Miners Mills, and Daniel, Dayton, Ohio, and one grandson.

The funeral will be held from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains, at 9 a.m. Monday, with divine liturgy in Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church at 9:30 o’clock, and interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 10 p.m. tomorrow and 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. Sunday.

Samuel Martin Dies At Age 80

A patient six days, Samuel K. (Martinovich) Martin, of 80 East Main Street, Miners Mills, died yesterday afternoon in General Hospital.

He was born in Ceteye, Yugoslavia, and came to this country in 1906. He was a mine foreman for Lehigh Valley Coal Company at Tomhicken, and later was superintendent of Beaver Valley Coal Company, Scotch Valley. He moved to Miners Mills in 1924 and continued in the employ of Lehigh Valley Coal Company, retiring 10 years ago.

Mr. Martin was a recipient of the American Legion Distinguished Service Certificate from Post 741, in May, 1955.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church.

Surviving are his wife, Caroline; sons, Lewis, Miners Mills, and Daniel, Dayton, O.; one grandson.

Funeral will be held Monday morning at 9 from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 South Main Street, Plains, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 in Holy Trinity RO Church, with Very Rev. George Pawlush officiating.

Friends may call Saturday night 7 to 10 and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 10.
