Family Search: When Corporal Alexander McCarrol was born on 8 August 1887, in County Londonderry, Ireland, his father, Alexander McCarroll, was 27 and his mother, Martha Gibson McCarroll, was 28. He married Eleanor May Tate on 25 April 1928, in Brampton, Peel, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son. He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and lived in Caledon, Peel, Ontario, Canada for about 7 years and Brampton, Peel, Ontario, Canada for about 4 years. He registered for military service in 1915. In 1915, at the age of 28, his occupation is listed as labourer in Caledon, Peel, Ontario, Canada. He died on 21 November 1970, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 83, and was buried in Brampton Cemetery, Brampton, Peel, Ontario, Canada.

This man enlisted with the 126th (Peel) Overseas Battalion at Toronto, Ontario on 14 December 1915. He was a labourer by trade and had no prior military experience.

He embarked at Halifax, Nova Scotia, for England on 14 August 1916, arriving at Liverpool on the 24th aboard the SS Empress of Britain.

He was transferred to the 116th on 15 October 1916 and was moved to Bramshott Camp. He was then transferred to the 18th Battalion and arrived at the Canadian Base Depot, Harve on 29 November 1916, and arrived “in the field” with the 18th Battalion on 3 December 1916.

He was appointed as Lance-Corporal on 3 May 1917 and was promoted to Corporal on 31 March 1918 and then appointed Lance-Sergeant on the same date.

He was granted 14 days leave to England, effective 18 December 1917.

Lance-Sergeant McCarroll attended a Rest Camp from 16 October 1918 to 2 November 1918.

He contracted influenza on 24 November 1918 and was absent until 12 December 1918, when he returned to duty with the 18th Battalion in Germany.

He was discharged due to demobilization at Toronto, Ontario on 27 March 1919.
