Family Search: When Private Norman Alexander Moore was born on 2 April 1897, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, his father, George Alexander Moore, was 38 and his mother, Florence Matilda Hedge, was 29. He married Irene Catherine Thomas on 27 August 1921, in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. He immigrated to York, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1922 and lived in Detroit Ward 16, Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States in 1940 and Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, United States in 1950. He registered for military service in 1915. He died on 8 November 1972, in Redford, Wayne, Michigan, United States, at the age of 75, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth, Wayne, Michigan, United States.

This man enlisted with the 149th Battalion on 28 December 1915, at Petrolia, Ontario. He was a labourer with no prior military experience.

He, along with the 149th Battalion, embarked at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 25 March 1917 aboard the SS Lapland, and debarked at Liverpool on 7 April 1917, and proceeded to the Segregation Camp at Bramshott. He was taken on strength with the 25th Canadian Reserve Battalion on that date and then posted to the 161st Battalion on 1 June 1917.

He was awarded a Good Conduct Badge on 28 December 1917.

He was transferred to the 18th Battalion on 28 February 1918 and proceeded to join that battalion on that date. Arriving “in the field” on 15 March 1918, he began his active combat service.

He was wounded on 8 August 1918 with a GSW to the right thigh. It was considered a “severe” wound. He was transferred to a Casualty Clearing Station, and hence to No. 47 General Hospital on the next day. He was then transferred via the A.T. St. David hospital ship to England for further treatment.

He recovered but did not serve in combat again, returing to Canada on 24 June 1919.

He was discharged due to demobilization on 6 July 1919 at Toronto, Ontario.
