Family Search: When Private Herbert Walter Palmer was born on 11 February 1892, in Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada, his father, William Palmer, was 29 and his mother, Hannah Margaret Underwood, was 24. He married Mary Elizabeth Ferguson on 15 August 1936, in Woodstock, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. He lived in Lambton, Ontario, Canada for about 10 years. He registered for military service in 1916. In 1936, at the age of 44, his occupation is listed as tax collector in Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada. He died on 2 April 1982, at the age of 90, and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario, Canada.

This man enlisted with the 149th Battalion on 31 January 1916 at Watford, Ontario.

He was a accountant following the Methodist faith and lived in SArnia at the time of his enlistment.

He arrived in England on 7 April 1917 and was transferred for active combat duty on 28 February 1918 and arrived “in the field” on 15 March 1918.

He was wounded on 8 August 1918 with a GSW to his right ankle. He received treatment at No. 11 Stationary Hosptial and was sent for convalescent care on 14 August 1918 and was returned to combat duty on 7 October 1918.

He was promoted to corporal two days later to replace Corporal J. P. Souter, who was killed in action.

He was granted 14-days leave on 26 January 1919 to the United Kingdom and rejoined the 18th Battalion on 14 February 1919.

He served the rest of the war with the 18th and was discharged due to demobilization on 24 May 1919 at London, Ontario.

He married Mary Elizabeth Ferguson (b. 1902, d. 1988) on 15 August 1936.
