Family Search: When Private William Daniel Renaud was born on 19 December 1893, in Ontario, Canada, his father, Charles Reneaud, was 40 and his mother, Mary Deneau, was 22. He had at least 5 sons and 7 daughters with Hilda Irene Fryer. He lived in Amherstburg, Essex, Ontario, Canada, in 1916 and Tecumseh, Essex, Ontario, Canada, in 1942. He registered for military service in 1916. His occupation is listed as watchman, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Bell Telephone Company in Windsor, Essex, Ontario, Canada. He was granted a pardon due to an amnesty and returned,d and was placed with the 149th Battalion, January 1917.

He proceeded overseas on 26 April 1917, arriving in England aboard the SS Justicia on 14 May 1917.

He was taken on strength with the Reserve Cyclist Company at Chiseldon on that day and was then taken on strength with the 4th Canadian Reserve Battalion on 30 June 1917.

He was transferred overseas to the 18th Battalion on 26 September 1917, arriving at No. 2 Canadian Infantry Base Depot at Etaples, France on the next day.

He was transferred to the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp on 2 October 1917, and while he was there,e he suffered “Traumatic Abrasion” to his feet requiring medical attention at a field ambulance. He rejoined the CCRC on 27 November 1917 and was released to join the 18th Battalion “in the field” on 2 December 1917.

Shortly after arriving from the CCRC, he suffered laryngitis and was transferred to No. 5 Canadian Field Ambulance on 5 January 1918, returning for duty on 8 January 1918.

On 8 August 1918, Private Renaud received a GSW to his left hand and was admitted to No. 10 General Hospital the next day. He was then shipped to England aboard the A.T. Grantully Castle on 10 August 1918.

He received medical treatment in England, and he was returned to Canada aboard the SS Scotian sailing 14 January 1919.


William Renaud

William Renaud, 65, of Robinet Lane, Tecumseh, died Wednesday in Hotel Dieu after a short illness.

He was born in Malden Twp., and lived in Tecumseh for 20 years, going there from Windsor.

Mr. Renaud was employed by the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires as a watchman at the Bell Telephone Co., and he was a member of St. Anne’s Church, Tecumseh.

Surviving are his widow, Hilda; five sons, Clifford of LaSalle, Frank of Riverside, Charles of Windsor, Clarence of Sandwich East Twp., and Joseph at home; seven daughters, Mrs. Ray Renaud (Catherine) of Weston, Ont., Mrs. Keith Simpson (Elaine) and Mrs. Armand Berard (Hazel) of Sandwich East, Mrs. John Zorzit (Mary Jane) of Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. Richard Guilbeault (Theresa), and Mrs. Ken Norry (Shirley) of Windsor and Mrs. John Miller (Florence) of Goderich; two brothers, Fred and Frank of Windsor and 38 grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Marcotte Funeral Home, 12105 Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh and at St. Anne’s Church for 9 a.m. requiem mass.

Prayers will be said evenings at 8 o’clock.

Burial will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
